Tips to Heal Faster after a Plastic Surgery

You need to take additional precautions to be able to heal faster and completely without any side effects. Following instructions given by your surgeon is critical for getting desired results.

Here are some tips you can follow to heal faster:

Stay Away from Sun

You must protect yourself from exposure to ultra violet rays of sun. These rays are known to cause damage or discoloration to skin especially at the incision site. Wear sunglasses, sunscreen (recommended by doctor only) or a hat for extra protection. You should also avoid exposing incisions to pollution.

Do Not Strain

You must stay away from any strenuous activities or exercises until 4-6 weeks after plastic surgery. These activities tend to increase heart rate and blood pressure. The sealed blood vessels may open resulting in bleeding and bruising. Do not lift pets or babies after a tummy tuck.

Have a Healthy Diet

For faster healing from plastic surgery, your body needs additional protein and calories. Make sure you take good amount of protein and consume foods rich in vitamins A and C. Consult your plastic surgeon before following a specific diet.

Keep yourself Hydrated

Make sure you are having lot of water. Drink at least 9 glasses of water a day to keep your body healthy. Do not count juices or tea as liquid for hydrating body.

Abstain from Alcohol, Tobacco and Drugs

These elements are harmful for the body. They will also slow down healing process and lead to unnecessary complications. Alcohol is a strong immune suppressant. It can delay your healing further. Alcohol dehydrates the body and can result in bleeding. Smoking or even exposure to second hand smoke can have worse effects on skin. The smoke restricts oxygen that reaches body cells. Oxygen is needed to speed up healing process.

No Over the Counter Drugs

Strictly avoid any over the counter drugs or anabolic steroids (for muscle building). These may cause serious problems. Some of the over the counter and prescription drugs or supplements can increase bleeding risk. Consuming recreational drugs will increase the need for pain medications. Intake of steroids will delay healing of incisions.
